~~As the largest mental health care provider in Canada, CAMH is frequently implementing innovations and novel service delivery interventions, such as Integrated Care Pathways. The Health Economist will play a critical role in the evaluation of these innovations and interventions, including cost-effectiveness analyses, with the goal of strengthening CAMH’s position as health performance measurement expert in the development and dissemination of cost-effective mental health service delivery with the goal of maximizing quality and efficiency. Specifically, this position will support CAMH’s strategic plan to increase novel service delivery interventions, which have been economically evaluated.
CAMH is seeking a Health Economist to take on the above described challenge to develop economic evaluation models for interventions in the area of mental and addictive disorders. The job requires an excellent understanding of economic theory, advanced econometrics, principles of economic evaluation and health services research. The results of this work will be important to inform mental health and addiction policy and resource planning, and improve delivery of care for patients with mental and addictive disorders in Ontario. In this position, you will prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed journals and will play a lead role as the principal investigator in the submission of grant proposals to external funding agencies. The successful candidate will hold an appointment at the University of Toronto (this will involve teaching and graduate student supervision responsibilities). As part of a larger scientific team, the Health Economist will be expected to play a key facilitation role in building a productive scientific team and mentoring, coaching and training research staff, post-doctoral fellows and research trainees. The Health Economist will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to conducting and fostering research and enthusiasm about participating in multidisciplinary research and training activities. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Health Economics or a related field with an excellent understanding of principles of economic theory, advanced econometrics, economic evaluation and health service research and experience in working with large datasets, such as survey and/or administrative health care data. Experience and/or success in applying for funding, and developing quality applications to peer reviewed granting agencies is an asset. This position also requires an excellent (proven) track record and aptitude in writing for peer-reviewed publication, and skills in computer-based economics and statistical modeling. The successful candidate will demonstrate ability and experience in all stages of research, including expertise in research design and management of research projects, and quantitative methods, including the ability to conduct high level statistical analyses, such as multivariate approaches and structural equation modelling. The candidate should be self-directed and have experience working in a highly team-focused environment with multi-disciplinary team members from diverse backgrounds. The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers and the scientific community is required. Other requirements include strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, problem solving, strategic planning skills, and negotiation skills; networking and partnership building skills; commitment to high quality work and attention to detail; and excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation). Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
