About the Centre for Research on Inner City Health (http://www.stmichaelshospital.com/crich/)
The Centre for Research on Inner City Health (CRICH) is one of the major research programs at St. Michael’s Hospital. CRICH has a group of 17 scientists who have diverse expertise, but whose focus is largely on the most vulnerable, marginalized and potentially at-risk populations in society, including the homeless and urban Aboriginal populations. CRICH researchers address issues of health equity through a broad social determinants of health framework which includes considerations of systemic issues of poverty, access to quality health services, housing stability, personal safety, immigration status, ethnicity, employment equity and the built environment. CRICH research is often conducted in partnership with those being served by the research, including individuals, communities, service providers and policy makers. As much as possible, CRICH research is focused on solutions-oriented approaches, while recognizing that understanding root causes is necessary to develop effective solutions.
