The Department of Community Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute for Public Health and the Svare Professorship in Health Economics at the University of Calgary, invite applications for a contingent-term full-time academic position (Assistant or Associate Professor) in Health Economics. The position offers the opportunity to pursue independent and collaborative research in Health Economics within a multidisciplinary environment that includes a new Institute for Public Heath and graduate training stream in Health Economics (both MSc and PhD). The candidate will work within a dynamic group of health economists who can provide strong mentorship.

Duties will include teaching, graduate student supervision, and the development of a research program in Health Economics, that considers the needs of local and provincial Health Care Decision makers, and ongoing opportunities within the University of Calgary Health Technology Assessment Unit, which may include health technology assessment or other policy responsive research. There will be significant protected time (at least 50%) for research. The preferred candidate will be expected to compete for operational research support from peer-reviewed agencies such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Applicants will have a PhD with training and a research focus in Health Economics with evidence of strong methodological and analysis skills. Candidates with strong records of successful collaboration with others in Health Economics and related health disciplines are encouraged to apply. Good communication skills and teaching skills are essential.

The Department of Community Health Sciences will be expected to have a central role in the University’s Research Plan, which includes relevant health related priorities and will have a lead role in meeting the Faculty’s commitment to broad engagement and community partnerships.
