The Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation of the University of Toronto, the Institute for Research in Public Health of the University of Montreal, the Canadian Association for Health Services, Policy and Research, the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement and the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research are jointly presenting one of the most important conferences of the fall season “The Development of Learning Healthcare Systems: How can Canada own the podium.

As Canada and other countries struggle with the profound challenges of improving our healthcare systems, there is a growing appreciation for the value of our healthcare systems becoming learning organizations. This idea first enunciated a number of years ago has evolved over time as new technologies, data infrastructure, and highly trained individuals have come forward. A great deal of progress has already been made, but we anticipate the promise of more to come. At this timely conference, coming as it does with the initiation of the first cohort of CIHR Health System Impact Fellows, we will assess how far we have come both in Canada and around the world, and lay out what should come next.

A poster session will be held in the late afternoon of November 13, following the formal presentations. We invite poster submissions of projects that exemplify how a learning healthcare system operates, or that make a contribution to the theory of learning systems. Submissions will be judged by an expert panel. Submissions deadline is October 6. Notifications to applicants will be communicated the week of October 16th.
