Two Inaugural Research Chairs

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Deadline: August 06, 2016 12:00:00 am

 Two Inaugural Research Chairs:

Implementation and Evaluation Science and Patient Experience

Trillium Health Partners (THP) is a leading hospital with an outstanding record of performance, fiscal responsibility and quality patient care. THP offers a full range of acute care as well as a variety of specialized, community-based programs. THP’s mission is to create a new kind of health care for a healthier community. Guided by its values of compassion, excellence, and courage, THP’s strategic plan envisions a new approach to health – working in partnership to create an inter-connected system that is organized around the patient, both inside the Hospital and beyond its walls, by balancing quality, access and sustainability.

Trillium Health Partners established the Institute for Better Health (IBH) in 2014 to help create a new kind of health care for a healthier community using scientific expertise, innovative approaches and partnerships. The IBH leads research projects that align with the hospital’s goals and supports the advancement of research work across the hospital – all with the intention of improving health and transforming care. The IBH is committed to enabling, producing and sharing meaningful research and innovation, focused on the health care system, while building the infrastructure to better support and enable all research at the hospital. With that goal in sight, IBH has created two inaugural Research Chairs who will establish new research programs in a growing organization at the leading edge of advancing research into practice.

Research Chair in Implementation and Evaluation Science

The Institute for Better Health (IBH) is seeking a nationally recognized scientist to be the Inaugural Research Chair in Implementation and Evaluation Science. In partnership with local health system leaders, the Research Chair will be responsible for establishing a research program to implement and evaluate novel approaches to health system organization, delivery and financing. The research will inform health policy and care delivery with the goal of improving health, patient experience and affordability.

Research Chair in Patient and Family Experience

The Institute for Better Health (IBH) is seeking a recognized scientist to be the Inaugural Research Chair in Patient Experience. In partnership with local health system leaders, the Research Chair will be responsible for establishing a research program aimed at evaluating and improving the patient-and family experience. The research will invite patients and their families to participate in improving their own care experiences by putting “patients first” in the design and delivery of health services, thereby addressing their diverse needs, both within the community and beyond. This partnership with patients and care providers has an opportunity to improve health outcomes and ensure a better journey through the health care system.

Key leadership initiatives for the new Research Chairs will be to:

  • Launch and evolve THP’s new Research Chairs through building new research programs that foster a collaborative environment and support health services research that is applied, relevant and measurable.
  • Evolve and advance THP’s scientists’ work, ensuring that it is aligned with THP’s mission, strategic directions and can be applied at THP and/or across community partners.
  • Build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and the broader stakeholder community, including but not limited to, local health leaders, institutions and community partners, by encouraging collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a commitment to implementation & evaluation science and “patients first”.
  • Advance system priorities and deliver on key research programs that effectively integrate THP services with the broader hospital and health care community, with a focus on community, primary care, home care and transitions of care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of clinical environments, and a distinguished track record of successful research leadership, scholarship and competitive research grant funding. With an in-depth understanding of health services research and advancing “knowledge to action”, the successful candidate will have a PhD in health services research or a relevant field. Other clinicians and healthcare professionals with advanced research credentials will also considered. An outstanding research leader committed to system performance and innovation, the successful candidate will also be an exceptional relationship developer capable of inspiring teams, peers and stakeholders. A demonstrated ability to partner with new colleagues in an invigorating, evolving organization/environment is a definite asset.
