Head of Clinical Research for Duke Orthopaedics

Deadline: May 19, 2014 12:00:00 am

The department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Duke Clinical Research Institute are seeking to recruit a head of clinical research for Orthopaedics.  Clinical research is defined in its broadest sense, and includes epidemiology, health policy, population biology, clinical trials, and certain types of translational work.  The successful individual will have a viable externally funded research program, provide vision and strategic direction for clinical science research activities within the Department, and oversee the departmental clinical research unit. They will direct, mentor, or provide oversight to division heads coordinating clinically oriented research, liaise with the departmental vice-chair for research and the departmental chair in their activities, and have the opportunity to recruit additional faculty to develop a robust clinical research program.  The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree, or its equivalent, and have relevant experience running an independent, externally funded, clinical research program.  It is not expected that the individual be a clinician, but there are clinical opportunities available if the successful candidate requires a clinical position as well as a position in the department and the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

Duke University is located in the heart of North Carolina’s research triangle park, and has a wide variety of housing options, with excellent schools and a broad range of recreational and cultural activities available.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leadership role in building a clinical research team within a strong academic environment.  There are excellent resources available to develop a robust clinical research program.

Interested candidates should send their CV, a short cover letter with a statement of intent, and a list of three references (we will not contact references until we have the applicant’s written permission) to:
