This permanent, full-time position is an excellent opportunity for a tech-savvy research professional to contribute to a variety of research projects at the CFPC. Main Responsibilities:
This position provides the technical, methodological, database and analytical expertise relevant to research projects undertaken within CFPC. The research experience of the Research Analyst facilitates both the ongoing analysis of data sources available through projects of CFPC Research Department, as well as research/IT assistance/support for other CFPC departments intending to carry out research activities. This position is heavily involved in the Janus and National Physician Survey projects, National Research System (NaReS) projects, and other projects/assignments as required.

  • Conducts analyses on the National Physician Survey database and other available CFPC data sources to produce reports and publications, including conference posters and presentations, regular Fast Fact publications for the Canadian Family Physician, and content for the NPS website.
  • Increases the visibility of CFPC by identifying the opportunities for publication of data in the scientific and grey literature, as well as online resources and live events.
  • Participates in database development and maintenance tasks, e.g. data cleaning and preparation. Offers research database development/maintenance guidance to other CFPC departments as required.
  • Creates and maintains syntax libraries for use with CFPC based research databases.
  • Develops and takes part in promotional activities for the NPS, including online promotion, committees, conference attendance, and preparation of promotion materials.
  • Provides analytical/methodological assistance and research-related IT support to CFPC departments and Committees for their research-related needs.
  • Participates in liaising with physician members, collaborating organizations, and government and academic individuals. Performs necessary data analysis to fulfill stakeholder requests.
  • Maintains social media presence for various research projects, and participates in the generation of the content to be used in CFPC Research social media channels.
  • Maintains records of research activities, publications and presentations.
  • Manages the research software used in the Research Department.
  • Participates and assist in miscellaneous Research Department activities as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in a research discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years related professional experience
  • Ability to independently determine potential research inquiry directions.
  • Proven strong ability to analyze data and summarize findings in variety of formats (reports, presentations, publications).
  • Strong skills in knowledge translation with the ability to explain the data/results in common terms for non-researchers.
  • Essential to have extensive knowledge and expertise in a variety of statistical methods, and extensive experience working with SPSS, and writing SPSS syntax.
  • Experience working with WordPress-based websites.
  • Knowledge of survey research methodology principles, and experience in carrying out all phases of research studies (conceptualization, methodology development, data collection, analysis and dissemination of results).
  • Experience working with large databases, including development and maintenance.
  • Understands the issues of ethics and privacy around research data.
  • Solid general knowledge of the Canadian health care system, and issues around health human resources and electronic health records.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, readiness to learn new skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Creative problem-solving and strong communications skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • French proficiency would be an asset.

Working Conditions: Open-concept office environment

Hours of Work: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
