The Business Operations and Surveillance Branch is responsible for a very diverse array of corporate and system supports for population and public health in BC. The Branch leads/coordinates the development of system renewal and program strategies to ensure the consistent development of performance indicators, standards and business case rationales, and the development of policy, legislation, population health core function guidelines, standards, and other population health and wellness initiatives to ensure Health Authority accountability for population public health outcomes.

As Medical Consultant/Provincial Epidemiologist, you provide a surveillance function for the Provincial Health Officer and the Population and Public Health Division, with a focus on priority chronic diseases, injuries and risk factors to support population health monitoring, policy, planning and programs. This is a critical role that encompasses providing general epidemiology and community medicine support to the Provincial Health Officer and the Population and Public Health Division on priority public health issues and providing analytical support for the Provincial Health Officers’ Annual & Special Reports as required.

You are an analytical medical professional with outstanding communication skills, able to apply public health science and community medicine practice skills to epidemiology and collaborate productively with other ministry groups, Medical Health Officers, the Public Health Agency of Canada and with similar groups in other provinces. The Medical Consultant functions effectively in a fast-paced, high pressure and often time sensitive environment. You will work with a scientifically oriented and evidence-based multidisciplinary team of professionals and contractors that frequently develop new information and learn new skills through ongoing experience.
