The Annual CAHSPR Conference
The Annual CAHSPR Conference brings together over 400 of Canada’s leading researchers, decision makers, managers and trainees to exchange ideas and share findings from the most recent studies in health services and policy research. Featuring over 200 presentations in plenary, small group and poster formats, the Annual CAHSPR Conference has something for everyone. In addition to emerging research, the Annual CAHSPR Conference features provocative plenary lectures by leaders in health policy. Past marquee speakers include Roy Romanow, head of the Royal Commission on the Future of Health Care and author of the 2002 Romanow Report; Claude Castonguay, head of the 2007 Castonguay task force on Quebec health care; and Robert Evans, one of Canada’s most influential and provocative health economists. The Annual CAHSPR Conference is also the event at which numerous national awards, honours and ceremonies occur. Special events and celebrations at the CAHSPR conference include the following:

§ The Emmett Hall Lectureship is given by an individual nominated by the Justice Emmett Hall Memorial Foundation board for making an outstanding contribution to the advancement of health ideals of equity, fairness, justice and efficiency.
§ The Health Services Research Advancement Award is presented by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation to an individual, team, or organization that has contributed significantly to the advancement of the health services research community in Canada.
§ The Rising Star Award is presented by the CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) to recognize the research excellence and knowledge translation initiatives of upcoming Canadian graduate students and post-doctoral Fellows in the area of health services and policy research.
§ Hall Foundation Student Essay Awards are given to the three students who submitted the best essays on any topic related to health services or health policy. The essays are displayed at the Hall Foundation poster session during the CAHSPR conference.
§ The IHSPR Student Poster Competition is co-sponsored by the CIHR-ISHPR and CAHSPR. Three masters and doctoral students are awarded prizes for their outstanding posters, which are presented at the conference.
